Wild African Adventures in Art by Maureen C. Berry

April 12-May 16, 2024

The Anne P. Baker Gallery presents “Wild African Adventures in Art,” a multimedia exhibit by Maureen C. Berry. This collection is comprised of nearly 70 pieces and will be on display from April 12 through May 16, 2024. The community is invited to an opening reception on Friday, April 12, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Maureen C. Berry is an American visual artist based in Kentucky. She was first a food writer, seafood cookbook author, photographer, and speaker focusing on sustainability. She transitioned to art in 2020 after a life-threatening cancer diagnosis. Maureen’s core philosophy is to share stories of hope through art and show how humans can protect, preserve, and coexist with wildlife without sacrifice. This exhibit includes watercolors, photographs, inks, acrylics, textiles, and other forms of media. Some items will be available for purchase.

A note from the artist: As a visual artist, I aim to produce work that encourages personal reflection and a reset. WILD AFRICAN ADVENTURES IN ART is a collection of photography, watercolors, and mixed media that explores the beauty of Africa based on a safari I took in 2023, a few months after my second cancer diagnosis. My art shows what it means to be resilient and courageous in the face of adversity, a situation similar to daily life in Africa, where wildlife and African tribes are exposed to poaching, agriculture, deforestation, climate insecurity, and drought. I hope you connect to our shared humanity and vulnerability in this multidisciplinary exhibition.

The Anne P. Baker Gallery is located inside the Glema Mahr Center for the Arts on the campus of Madisonville Community College.
