School Days Matinees

The Glema Mahr Center for the Arts has announced its 2025-2026 School Days Matinees lineup, featuring six events for students of all ages.

Lexington Children’s Theatre opens the series in September with Stuart Little and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The traveling troupe will return in February with The Princess Who Lost Her Hair and Pinocchio. The series rounds out with the Hopkins County High Schools joint productions of Godspell in November and Hello, Dolly! in March.

“This might be my favorite series at the Glema Center,” said Director Toby Roberts. “We know how important it is. The programming caters to students starting in kindergarten and follows them through high school graduation. It is frequently the first time—and may be the only time—some of them will have a live arts experience. Our hope is to foster a love of the arts that will last their entire lives.”

School Days Matinees performances are underwritten with financial support from Hopkins County Schools. Each event is considered a district-sponsored field trip for a predetermined grade level within Hopkins County Schools as noted in the information packet on the Glema Center website, but participation is not automatic; teachers must make reservations with the Glema Center and the Transportation Department for their classes to participate.

Although these events are not open to the community, they are not limited to classes within the Hopkins County Schools system. Public schools, private schools, and home schools in the region are welcome to attend; ticket pricing is available on the Glema Center website, and advance reservations are required.
